[...] Within Daniel Herskedal's portfolio is the newly released first album of the Amsterdam based trio Lochs/Balthaus/Herskedal (label MUC). The initiator of the band is the Dutch trumpet- and flugelhorn player Bert Lochs, with German Dirk Balthaus on the piano or rhodes. Both musicians are well merited in the European jazz scène. Norwegian Herskedal on the tuba is the bands youngest member but an equal musician on all accounts. The result is this beautiful, acoustic music, often "classical" in the sound, presented by three musicians that struck a chord despite country borders and generations.
